Miocic (-250) has assembled his match around his world boxing abilities. He constantly probes together with his long jab as he waits for his opportunity to counter. That being said, Miocic might be better if he’s fighting in a phone booth with more power in his brief punches than many people have, period. In addition, the reigning winner is a former D1 wrestler who has adapted his style excellently to MMA. Generally, these skills are utilized but Miocic will also use them to wear down opponents — see his latest bout vs Francis Ngannou. If he has one big drawback, it’s his defense. He’s got a bad tendency to have a hit to provide a hit.
Cormier (+195) is first and foremost a series wrestling pro. The former Olympian is at his finest when he could get his opponent’s back against the cage and start working his vast array of takedowns. If he gets on top, DC is a master at making his competitor work while offering them go. His striking isn’t the sexiest but the meat-and-potatoes strategy has become an superb secondary skill set for Cormier.
